'Revenge is sweet.'

****

~Adam~

He woke up with a sore back. His eyes fluttered open lazily to find Eve nestled in his arms like a child. Her thin hair fell like a blanket around him and her breaths were soft in sleep. It took him a moment to realize that he and Eve were in Godpheus's new cage. The vertical metal bars he'd grown so used to was replaced with a transparent pane of glass. The fish tank had no roof, and was framed together by thin aluminium sheets. It was more like a display case than a cage.

Even with this new cage and this new environment though, Adam didn't want to have to wake up. For the past five years during his lifespan, he'd aged little, at the rate of a Laquanian (since he was made not born) but he'd lived the life of a true pet. His existence was literally confined in this laboratory. Eve and him were on the same verge of going insane. They had seen it in each other's eyes.

"Morning sunshine." He whispered in her ear as she stirred. Eve groaned and pulled herself upright with her elbows.

"We're still in the new cage, right?" No 'hello's', no friendly acknowledgement. Just the same question she'd asked for years. Adam felt guilty as he nodded. He looked away to stare around the room. Godpheus was gone- probably eating or something. Not that he cared.

It felt like hours before the door of the study opened with a creak. Adam's head snapped up at the sound and he rubbed his eyes. A figure appeared in the doorway. Strange though; Adam could have sworn Godpheus was taller and thinner...

That was because he wasn't Godpheus... or Barnabas for that matter. Adam and Eve hadn't seen any other Laquanian, apart from God's humanization test subjects in their lives. But the man... this man who was now walking on tiptoes into the room seemed so... familiar. Adam shrank back into the shadows of the glass enclosure, the lack of bars giving the Laquanian full view of him and his mate. The man wore full on black, but his face was exposed. He carried a familiar weapon in his hands; a rifle. He had it positioned to shoot and as he glanced worriedly around the room, the gun would follow his eyes.

So when Adam and Eve found the butt of a rifle aimed at their tiny faces, both humans went stark white. The man aiming the gun at them paused for a second, his enormous brow creasing.

"I know you two..." He muttered in barely a whisper. His eyes widened and then narrowed. It was only then that Adam remembered who this Laquanian man was. How could he have forgotten? He'd cost this man... his leg.

David Malross.

~Lilly~

From her study, Lilly called out to her husband. No answer, only the silence of the house after her shout. She frowned. David had told her he was going to bed early. Maybe he was sleeping. After a while, Ben answered in a yell.

"Dad's not here! He just left about ten minutes ago!" He said from his bedroom. Strange. Lilly thought. I didn't hear him leave. She sighed, thinking he was out at the grocers or something along those lines and continued with her work.

She was dead wrong.

~Adam~

Oh Laqua NO! Adam thought in panic. This couldn't be happening. David Malross would kill him. And more importantly, his mate. On cue, he wrapped his arms around her body and pulled her against him protectively.
"Genesis Adam and Eve." David whispered, half in anger half in disbelief. "I'm surprised Godpheus didn't kill you after what you vermin did to me." He spat out their master's name like it was poison. One side of Adam agreed with him, the other neutral. He hated his master.

"What are you doing trespassing in my master's laboratory?" Adam ignored the larger man's remark and pushed as much firmness as he could into his own voice. David snorted.

"I'm just, you know, taking back what your master stole from me." He said acidly.

"Your leg?" Adam sighed. "He lied to you about the cancer, Laquanian. He used the leg in one of his humanization experiments. But I wouldn't call that your business."

David's face paled. "He lied?"

"Did I not just say that?" Adam rolled his eyes. David lowered his weapon so that the butt of the gun was aimed at the ground. "You wanted to kill him, didn't you?" Adam said. David's opaque eyes turned cold.

"It's none of your business, Human." He snapped.

"It is, seeing as it concerns my master. I'm sure Eve and I would be rewarded if we saved his life." At Adam's comment, Eve nodded in agreement.

"Well, Adam. I think that in this case, I'll take precautions with you two and your unusually big mouths." David hissed. Adam barely moved from his position with Eve inside the pet cage.

"Will you remove my leg?" He murmured in a whisper. This Laquanian could do whatever he wanted to them. It chilled Adam to the core even thinking about it.

David merely shrugged. "I think that would serve as an adequate form of good old revenge." He replied. The blood drained from the human's face. He stiffened and bit his lip.

"You cannot do this. My master will-"

"He'll what? Save you? As I recall, he has my leg to make himself a new Genesis Adam. Human, you won't be missed."

Adam knew the man was right. If he was taken Godpheus would be surprised, yes, but the loss would be minimal. Besides, he couldn't exactly fight off a Laquanian that spanned hundreds of times his size. "You can't do this." He repeated in an echoed tone. His eyes dulled in defeat.

"You know, Adam. I think I can." David smiled thinly and reached out with his free hand into the tank. Adam glanced worriedly at Eve, who was scrambling away from the approaching hand. David seized them both at the same time, mashing their bodies together inside his iron grip. Adam bit back a strangled scream and pushed at the fingers encasing him as he was lifted up out of the tank.

"FILTHY LAQUANIAN SCUM!" He roared through clenched teeth. David's milky eyes glinted angrily at the words but he said nothing. Adam's own eyes flared as he was brought up face to face with the Laquanian, and for a moment, the human felt them radiate as if they held some kind of power. Yet as he tore at the fingers around his waist with his nails and pushed away as hard as he could, Adam couldn't even escape. "PUT ME DOWN!" He yelled instead at David's face. The man smiled wider.

"You cost me my leg, pet. So now, I'm your master." He said. And without warning, Adam and Eve were thrust into the depths of David's satchel like ragdolls. Adam hit the base with a thump and only just managed to catch Eve in his arms before his head whacked against the material sides. David was walking quickly; he could feel it. And the man wouldn't show any mercy if he got them to his home...

"We have to get out of here, Eve." He hissed urgently. It was dark in the satchel, too dark to see properly. Eve could only be made out by her blonde/white hair. It shone in whatever light could be found in the bag.

"I can't see anything." Eve muttered back. Adam could sense her fear. He reached out blindly, on his hands and knees to pull her close. But he grabbed at air. Because suddenly he was tumbling through a hole at the base of the satchel. Light filled his vision as he fell. It all happened in the time frame of a second. One minute he was reaching for his mate protectively and the next... his head had smashed against stark white tiles and his eyes were filled with black stars. The last thing he saw before he blacked out was the pounding of David's feet as he took off at a run down the corridor.

With Eve in his bag.

And Adam lying dead to the world in the corner of a hallway.

In the time frame of a second.
Adam and David 'bump' into each other Sweating a little...
I'm really sorry for the long wait for the next chapter but school is back and by the looks of the assignments I've been getting this week, it's not going to be easy to update this story much...
So I've decided to post three chapters each weekend to compensate for the time I need to spend to study during the week. I'm really sorry and I know it isn't ideal, but once I've finished grade 12 next year you can have all the updates in the world Wink/Razz
